Minecraft fans must be eagerly anticipating the upcoming 1.20 update titled Trails & Tales. While a release date is still uncertain (around June), players can now prepare for new content by gathering resources, completing buildings, and making plans with friends. Once you’re ready, all that’s left is to wait for Mojang to roll out the full update.
Things to do to prepare for Minecraft 1.20
Find or plant bamboo
In the upcoming Minecraft 1.20 update, two new woods are Bamboo Wood and Cherry Tree wood. Among them, bamboo plank is the first wood block that is not taken directly from the tree block. In preparation for this addition, version 1.19 provides several ways to collect bamboo.
Bamboo can be found growing naturally in jungle biomes, especially in bamboo forest biomes. Also, it can be earned by killing pandas. A more peaceful approach is, bamboo can be purchased by fishing from forest biomes with a fishing rod, or by looting it from forest temples or shipwrecks. Sufficient quantities of bamboo should be collected to ensure an abundant supply of the new wood variant, as it has the ability to complement different building styles.
Find some ocean ruins
Minecraft 1.20 introduces an exciting new addition called Sniffer, a mob that won the Mob Vote in 2022 selected by the gaming community. After update 1.20, players will have a chance to obtain Sniffer Eggs by scanning suspicious sand blocks found in Ocean Ruin structures.
To prepare well, you should pre-determine one of these structures underwater. This way, you can easily navigate there and proceed to scan for suspicious sand blocks in it. If luck is on your side, you can collect a Sniffer Egg from the sand, which will then hatch into a baby Sniffer.
Collect feathers, copper ingots and sticks
In Minecraft’s Trails & Tales update, archeology (which was originally planned for the Caves & Cliffs update) is finally introduced. To fully enjoy this new feature, you will need one or more brushes. These tools can be crafted by combining a stick, a feather, and a copper ingot on the crafting table. Each of these materials can be obtained from a variety of sources and even from the farm.
Grab the saddle and find a desert village
Camels will also be introduced in Minecraft 1.20, although they may not be as popular as Sniffer. These mobs will appear in desert village structures, so you should locate them and keep it in mind before the 1.20 update. Also, to effectively ride a camel, you’ll need a saddle, so it’s a good idea to purchase one in advance. Since saddles cannot be crafted in vanilla Minecraft, you will need to find them through other means.
Build a forge table
In Minecraft 1.20, there are important modifications in addition to the new content, including new functions for the Smithing Table block. This block will now serve the purpose of upgrading equipment to netherite quality and creating armor embellishments using special items called Smithing Templates. While these templates are only available in structures created after the release of version 1.20, you can prepare them by building a Smithing Table in advance.
